RANREC

Torus Shield

Ranrecs are protected by a Torus Shield. The shield is a magnetic field which can be activated moments before a hostile confrontation. Due to the magnetic field the wearer is protected against low-mass high-velocity projectiles (metal bullets) and medium-mass low-velocity thrown objects (metal knives).

While powerful a Torus Shield is not without weaknesses. Its toroidal shape offers low protection for the head and feet. For this reason ranrecs are vulnerable against projectiles and grenades lopped at them or shot at them from above or below. The magnetic field is also not strong enough to stop objects at extremely high velocities or high mass/density. As such, a dense projectile shot from a railgun will not be stopped. Nor will a heavy object like a ramming expug or a strike by their Javolin. Obviously nonmagnetic objects, like a dense plastic disc armed with a strip of plastic explosives, cannot be stopped, nor can a charging beast.

React Suit

The tactical body armor worn by ranrecs are rigged with electrodes which pop out in a melee. Adversaries risk short-circuiting the electrodes in close quarter combat with one of their limbs or – in a wrestle – their entire body. This will stun and in rare cases electrocute anyone touching the React Suit.

Ferrotarg

A ranrec ferrotarg is attached to a tactical gauntlet on the wielder’s secondary arm. The ferrotarg protects the control panel for the ranrec’s drones. The control panel is placed on the back of the ferrotarg facing towards the ranrec.

The ferrotarg is coated with Wolf Steel and can withstand impact by any high-mass object not stopped by the Torus Shield. Apart from the obvious defensive use, the ferrotarg has other offensive, tactical and utilitarian purposes. The NLG (a stun repeater) can momentarily be latched on to a rail on the back of the ferrotarg thus freeing the gunhand to use the control panel. The ferrotarg is also used to strike or bash a melee opponent and to hide the shooting direction/trajectory of the NLG until the split second before the stun repeater is revealed and fired. A ranrec can also magnetize her ferrotarg in an attempt to disarm or lock an enemy’s metal weapon.

NLG

A NLG is a stun repeater – short for Non Lethal Gun. It fires razor sharp and magnetic electrodes wired to the NLG. Razor sharp for soft targets and magnetic for metal-based armor. The firing mechanism is similar to a taser. It is repeating in the sense that it does not need to be loaded with each shot. It has a clip system and each clip contains 5 rounds. Its range is 12 feet (approx. 4 meter). The NLG has a Wolf Steel™ handguard which can be used defensively to deflect or block and offensively as an extended blow of the fist. The electrodes do not need to be fired to conduct current which means ranrecs can shock opponents by simply thrusting their NLG forward to hit them.

NLG™
NLG™

NL90

A non lethal 90° launcher. The NL90can launch grenades and rockets around corners while the wielder remains behind cover. It can of course also shoot in a 0° angle. A small screen can be popped out which allows the wielder to see with the camera attached to the front of the NL90. The front camera has night and heat vision.

TCA Explosives

These explosives are non lethal. They consist of two component adhesives. A resin and a lightning quick hardener. Once they are combined they will solidify almost instantly. This can jam weapon triggers, blind drones and helmet-wearers as well as glue adversaries in place. TCA Explosives are packaged as grenades and mini-rockets.

The rockets are not guided as such, since they will fly straight at a target and explode on impact. However, they can explode before impact triggered by crossing the blue laser pointed at the target by a ranrec drone.

Grenades and Mini-rockets

TCA Explosives are not the only payload packaged in the grenades and mini-rockets of the RANREC. A ranrec will also carry flash, smoke and mace varieties. Flash variants will momentarily blind and disorient adversaries; smoke variants will fill an area with fully opaque smoke blocking sight, cameras and lasers; and mace will force opponents to flee their cover or suffer the respiratory and painful consequences.

EXPUG

Javolin

Pneumatic repeating speargun armed with six veruta and loaded with pressurized argon gas canisters. It is a rifle-sized weapon with a frakka-tip and a solid stock. Both factors, plus a solid build, makes it a formidable melee weapon as well.

Javolin™
Javolin™

Verut (pl. veruta)

A slim solid javelin/arrow. Heavier than projectiles ensuring enough mass as to not be stopped by Torus Shields.

Frakka

The bayonet-like tip of a Javolin.

IBEXO Suit™

Expugs wear a form of exoskeleton for the upper body. It serves as armor, but most importantly, it connects with their helmet when expugs ram their enemy or obstacles. Seen from the back, their helmet looks like the beak of an eagle – or an anvil – pointing towards the sky.

Their armor incorporates thrusters which accelerates them towards their targets when ramming. There is a weakness. There is a rod running along their leg. The leg pointing forwards when in shooting or fighting position. The rod is joint at the knee and attached to the knee and ankle. This rod is detached when they ignite thrusters and armor and helmet connect. The rod is a grounding mechanism. If it does not touch the ground, then the guidance system of the armor malfunctions and the expug will fly in a random forward direction.

Arachmid™ Nano Armor

Arachmid is an aramid fiber compound based on spidersilk. Not just any spidersilk. Silkworms living in an environment fed with H2O-vapor containing nano carbon tubes. These nano carbon tubes are absorbed by the silkworms via osmosis and are embedded in the silkstring being harvested. This material is lightweight and resistant to blades and projectiles. Does not protect against shock/trauma or blunt objects.

Angon Rockets™

Expugs use magnetic E.M.P. rockets. Primarily against RANREC drones and comms.

Araccon™

Thrown bolas or shot wire made of synthetic spidersilk. Spidersilk has higher tensile strength than steel. It will contract five times when in contact with water. This means any Rigaborum ensnared by it will lose limbs if using their umor or a water source to break free. For this reason it is also dubbed a “Riga Constrictor” or just rigacon.

ERD™

Energized Ramming Device. There are damaging effects on a destination when space ships leave a warp bubble. Particles outside the ship, but inside the bubble, are energized. Any energized particles will impact targets right in front of the bubble. EXPUG™ use this effect intentionally by decoupling ramming devices before leaving a bubble, thus hitting their targets with energized ramming devices when exiting the warp bubble.

Rigaborum

Umor™

On Gea, water is not readily available, so Rigaborum bring their own. The water they carry is infused with fine-grained Wolf Steel™ granulate. The substance is named Umor. Rigaborum can solidify the Umor.

Magudo-Tenax™

Magudo: A ceremonial staff. Often as short as a fighting stick, but it can be sized like a short spear or quarterstaff. Made of Wolf Steel™. It has a solid rod in the middle and an outer cylinder that is perforated with small holes. The solid rod gives the magudo strength while the perforated cylinder allow the Riga-wielder to conduct Umor uniformly through the small holes.

Tenax: When Umor is solidified through the magudo in the weaponized shape – often a blade – then it is a tenax. Solidified Umor looks like black ice with a neon blue glow. The glow pulses with the breath/heartbeat of the Riga-wielder.

Mechesh-Tenbo™

Mechesh: A ceremonial buckler-sized shield which inspired the use of bucklers for ranrecs. The mechesh is perforated just like the magudo – sometimes in slits instead of holes. Just like the magudo, Umor can be channeled forth through the perforations.

Tenbo: When Umor is solidified through the mechesh then it is a tenbo. Solidified Umor looks like black ice with a neon blue glow. The glow pulses with the breath/heartbeat of the Riga-wielder.

KDIS

Umbracrua™

Where Umor consists of water, Umbracrua consists of blood. Since blood is 90% water, there is no material difference between the two liquids. Before the formation of The Rigaborum there where no rules against “blood magic” i.e. Riga-manipulation of the blood of living creatures. Just like Umor, Umbracrua is infused with fine-grained Wolf Steel™ granulate. KDIS can solidify the Umcracrua.

Rocha™

A ceremonial dagger. Often as long as a shortsword, but it can be sized like a twohander. Made of Wolf Steel™. It has a solid core and is pointed like a giant needle. It is rifle-grooved. The solid core gives the rocha strength while the grooves allow the Riga-wielder to conduct Umbracrua uniformly through the length of the weapon. In ceremonial use, the rocha would pierce flesh and be covered in blood. KDIS may still use this as a tactic, if Umbracrua is out of reach.

Rochesha™

A sai-like trident-baton similar to a vajra. It has both offensive and defensive capabilities. It can grip or deflect enemy weapons. It can be used as a handle of a conjured blood-whip. It can be used in closer-quarter combat as a yawara stick. Rocheshas are used in the secondary hand where less aggresive opponents would wield a shield. Sometimes Rocheshas are double-wielded. In even rarer cases, a Rochesha is a twohanded double-tipped short staff where each tip is sai-like.
