RANREC™

RANREC enforces the law in most solar systems in Ovi™. Its members are commonly referred to as ranrecs. It is a ranger-recon corps with Aecorian origins.

Ranrecs are peacekeepers inspired by the teachings of the Rigaborum™. They believe no soul must ever be extinguished and no lifeblood must ever be spilled, opting instead to overpower their opponents through superior technology and nonlethal means. They are skilled fighters capable of besting most adversaries in hand-to-hand combat and they can outmanoeuvre all but few criminal organisations through advanced tactics. Ranrecs always capture, they never kill. “Leave no captives behind” is their mantra. This philosophy of nonlethality requires mobility, logistics and vast detention facilities which are financed by detention fees placed on top of bail posted by families, clans, governments, guilds and similar organizations representing the detainees of RANREC.

Squads and Tactics

A ranrec squad is usually a group of ten people: A squad leader, a pilot and eight scouts. They will travel in an Arcto fitted with a Troop Pod. The Troop Pod seats 8 scouts, their equipment and it has a compartment for the Asio skeleton. The Arcto pilot platform seats the pilot and squad leader thus totaling ten people.

The squad leader will always have one, sometimes more, drones operational. While traveling, the drone will not fly, but rather sit on top of the Arcto to act as the eyes and ears of the squad leader. If the pilot stops the vehicle – for instance before a sharp turn into an uncharted area – then the squad leader will fly ahead with the drone and sweep the area.

As ranrecs advance against their targets it will typically follow this pattern: Before arriving at the destination, ranrec scouts will disembark the Arcto. They will approach behind cover of the vehicle and be ready to fan out when ordered to or if the Arcto is damaged by enemy explosives. The scouts will activate as many drones as ordered by the squad leader. The squad leader will designate each drone to mark and follow a target in the area: Tango 1 (T1), Tango 2 (T2) etc.

At this point the scouts will advance. While they are exposed without cover, their Torus Shield and Ferrotarg™ protect them against hostile fire. All scouts will find cover as quickly as possible. Then some scouts will remain behind cover to find a target for their NL90armed with a TCA rocket. They will pop out the screen on their launcher and pick target T1, T2 etc. as ordered by the squad leader. The other scouts will throw one of their grenades – flash, smoke or mace depending on the situation. Simultaneously with these grenade throws, the TCA rockets will be fired. Now the scouts who threw grenades will advance further thus leaving cover. The remaining scouts will have reloaded their launchers and will provide covering fire while the others push forward.

The drones continue to monitor the area. Any targets that have so far avoided having shots fired at them, will be continuously harassed by the drone laser or flashlight. The drones are tasked to hit the eyes of the enemy with green laser light during day or night time or bright focused light from the flashlight if the target uses night vision equipment. Should this harassment not be enough to ruin the aim of the target – and should the target have no assigned ranrec scout to provide covering fire – then the squad leader will order the drone to move close and strike with a taser shot.

Up until now, the enemies have been hit with nonlethal rockets and grenades. Their weapons are jammed and limbs stuck with adhesives. They are forced out of cover or maced up or disoriented. Drones are targeting and harassing everyone and ranrec scouts are advancing under cover fire. Now the scouts and a few drones are moving in range to electroshock with taser shots from their NLGs. Few enemies are left standing at this point.

The few that are standing have jammed weapons and now face ranrecs in a melee. With their React Suit, Ferrotarg™, martial arts training and further reinforcements a few feet away, the ranrecs overwhelm them. Capture is imminent. At this moment an Arcto with a Detention Pod arrives.  No one is killed, peace is restored and no captive is left behind. The mission is a success.
